Cheaper Car Insurance for Women

It is true that women pay less for car insurance than a man, when all other factors are equal. This is not because insurers automatically like women better, even though it may seem that way at first. According to national highway statistics, women really are safer drivers than men, and the reduced rates they pay are how the insurance company thanks women for being more careful on the roadways. Where everything else is equal between a man and a woman, she will pay less for auto insurance because she is perceived as being a lesser risk.

Statistically, women have been shown to be safer drivers than men. This holds true for young female drivers than young males who might be more prone to driving fast or breaking other traffic laws. Later, when they have reached the ages of settling down and raising families, it is the woman who is most likely to spend more time with children in the car, and it is the woman who adjusts her driving habits to make the ride safer for her kids. Similarly, older woman are more conscious of the other vehicles on the roads, and less likely to speed or use other aggressive driving habits than men in the same age group.

This is not to say that all woman will pay less for insurance than men, it merely says that women are less likely to show bad driving habits. Woman who get into accidents or receive traffic tickets will pay more for auto insurance than men who do not, and the more citations they receive, the higher their rates will be. Statistically, women receive fewer DUI charges than men, as well, but there are still many women who get DUI's, and their rates will increase to reflect their more risky driving behavior.

It may not be true that women are more careful than men, or even that they follow the rules of the road more carefully. But it is true women are statistically safer drivers overall. As with anything, there will be bad female drivers and excellent male drivers which do not conform to the statistical mold, but the exceptions are rare and most drivers will serve to prove true the idea that women are less of a risk to insure than men when other factors are equal.
